Probably done at Sonning, Berkshire.
I (Ha). Two pools of water, the larger in the foreground separated by a strip of land from the smaller pool in the background. The trunk of an old tree is on the left and there are several houses in the right distance. A figure seen from the back is on the left, and near the signboard on the right is a fisherman with fishing pole; but this area did not etch completely and is sketchy. The foul-biting is fairly extensive.
II (Hb). The figure on the left now has a fishing pole, and the other fisherman's pole has been re-etched. The ground before the houses on the right is quite clear, but additional shading on foreground pool, and the far bank of the second pool has vertical drypoint strokes.
III (Hi). Reflections added in both pools with drypoint and there is drypoint work on the figure on the right. The ground before the houses is shaded with horizontal strokes. Some burnishing of foul-biting above tree and in foreground.

IV. The plate cancelled.
1Harrington dates the plate to 1887, but the annotation on one of the NYPL impressions leads to a date of 1874; furthermore, Haden was primarily working on zinc in 1874.
