Mantetsu are known to be hand-made and have superior cutting ability, and this is a very nice example of a Mantetsu. Everything is original with matching numbers. The cutting edge is 26³/8 inches. The width at the habaki is 1⁵/16 inches. The curve of the blade is ¾ inch.

The mounts are in excellent condition and were made custom for a high ranking or wealthy Japanese officer. The handle and scabbard were both made more flatly than a typical World War II sword which gives it a more comfortable feel to hold and wear. The blade is also custom made with a much deeper curve than most Mantetsu. It's in good shape with just a little bit of light staining. There are no bends, chips, cracks, or forging flaws. There is a little bit of light fingerprint staining and some light speckle marks from where the oil is touching inside the saya. There is a scratch on the wrap on the back edge of the handle.
